Essential Tremor

The UC Neuroscience Institute’s team of expert neurologists, neurosurgeons and other specialists are learning more every day about how to diagnose and treat tremors, which have many different causes.

Although people commonly identify tremors with Parkinson’s disease, a person who experiences tremors does not necessarily have Parkinson’s. The condition known as essential tremor is, in fact, much more common than Parkinson’s disease.

Essential tremor most often affects the hands, although some patients experience tremors of the head and neck, jaw, face and even the tongue and voice. In rare instances, essential tremor can affect the legs and feet.
